How to find a trustworthy RV Dealer
If you are buying a new or used RV you should make sure not only do you know how to choose an RV dealer properly but more importantly how to choose a reputable RV dealer. When it comes to buying your RV it is no longer necessary just to go to your local RV dealership and buy the RV that the salesman decides to sell you. By using the internet wisely you can find the best dealers in your local area and go there armed with all the information you need to buy your RV at the best possible price.
The first place you should check is online RV forums these are full of information and you will be able to get lots of advice about which dealers are good and which are to be avoided. Obviously not every complaint is valid but if there are a number of forum members with the same complaints about a dealership then they are probably genuine. Next try to check out national RV organizations as these often have registers of recommended dealers. When searching online don’t pay too much attention to online registers of dealers as dealers will often pay for inclusion so any reports will probably be biased towards the paying dealers.
Once you have found the dealer you are going to use it’s time to arm yourself with as much information as possible. Find out wholesale prices of any RV’s you are interested in buying and also try to find out what deals previous customers have negotiated. Dealers expect to have to give discounts and so they add large margins onto the price. To take advantage of this it is always sensible to make your first offer based on the wholesale price and not the selling price. Choosing the time of year that you buy your RV will also affect the discounts you’ll be able to get. If you buy in spring like everyone else then your discounts will the less as the dealer knows there will be another customer along soon. However if you buy in winter or fall the dealer doesn’t’ expect to sell many RV’s while still having to cover his running costs. Finally the best deals are often struck late on the last day of RV shows. Many dealers will prefer to cut a deal on an RV at the show than having to transport it home again. Often the late deal will turn the show from a loss making show to a profitable one for the dealer or salesman and so they tend to be motivated sellers.
As you can see finding how to choose an RV dealer is just the start of the process. Take your time, do your research and get advice from previous customers and you’ll not only find a great dealer but you’ll also save a lot of money in the process.
