RV Storage Tips
Here are some RV storage tips that should help you avoid some of the pitfalls that many RV owners have found themselves in. There are 2 types of storage you need to consider the first is during the spring and summer months when you will hopefully be taking lots of trips. Generally this will just require a secure parking place which you can access as you need. The second type of storage to consider will be where to store your RV during the Fall and Winter when the RV isn’t going to be used.
Winter storage is particularly important as if it is done incorrectly you can drastically shorten the life span of your RV. If you live in a climate where the winter temperature is often below freezing it is important to store your RV under cover. Resist the urge to buy a large tarpaulin and just cover the RV as this can do more damage than you would expect as it will stop air circulating and encourage mould to grow on the interior of the vehicle. If you must use a tarpaulin it is better to build a frame that will allow air to flow around the RV and place the tarpaulin over this.
Before storing your RV it is important to winterize it by removing all water from the RV’s tanks and pipes and also removing the batteries as they will soon discharge in the cold. You should also make sure that the tires are off the ground and the RV is supported by axel stands or pallets. If you don’t have enough land to store your RV at home your local dealer will be able to recommend somewhere for you. They may even have a facility themselves. You prime concern with storage away from your home should be the level of security provided, how the RV will be stored and that you can get access when you need it.
Where ever you store your RV you should try where possible to have it stored under cover. Some storage facilities will also offer a vehicle preparation service but for this they will need access to your RV. At a minimum you should ensure that any storage location you use offers water so you can fill up your tanks and also safe secure propane storage. Additionally if they can offer a way of keeping your batteries charged and a place to dump your waste these should be considered as desirable extras. Hopefully these RV storage tips have given you food for thought.
